First American is seeking candidates for a Principal DevOps Engineer role. An ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, building, and managing cloud automation workflows and tools to support automated CI/CD pipeline application deployments in AWS. The candidate will also apply deep technical expertise to solve cloud-native solutions at scale along with leading and evangelizing transformations and driving innovation. Additionally, the role requires supporting domain squads through a combination of cultural philosophies, practices, and tools to help them deliver end-to-end solutions at scale. The role will also contribute by developing assets for the DevOps Practice, building a community of practice, and developing a culture of shared accountability as it relates to security, faster product delivery, continuous improvement, and automation.
What You’ll Do
Build: Design and build the overall DevOps architecture and automate application and infrastructure development and deployment pipelines (IaC) by building scalable and re-usable patterns.
Collaborate: Partner with product and engineering domain teams to improve the reliability, scalability, and operability of solutions being developed through DevOps best practices. You will also collaborate with Enterprise Architecture and Info Sec teams to implement security and compliance policies across our cloud infrastructure running our applications and services.
Implement: Research, design, and implement monitoring and observability tools to evaluate health, usage, and availability of services running in the cloud. The role is also responsible for implementing zero downtime and blue-green deployment strategies.
Leadership: Provide technical leadership and guidance to DevOps engineers and mentor and coach other team members.
Best Practices: Responsible for establishing and optimizing our DevOps practices, including training, establishing methodologies, and creating /maintaining practice artifacts. Evangelize and drive adoption of best practices in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Configuration as Code (CaC), CI/CD, security, and compliance controls to protect the integrity and availability of our data and applications. Also, adopt a culture of collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement across the engineering squads.
What You’ll Bring
10+ years in the software engineering field, with 5+ years serving as a senior DevOps engineer/lead/architect with a focus on AWS.
Extensive experience designing, implementing, and managing enterprise-scale infrastructure on AWS, as well as deep understanding of AWS services and best practices.
Strong knowledge in key DevOps practices, including CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), message brokers, observability, and monitoring, serverless computing, containerization, and scripting languages like Python.
Strong hands-on experience with writing Terraform code including the creation and use of Terraform modules.
Solid experience managing containerization and container orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes including expertise in deploying, scaling, and managing containerized applications at scale.
Experience building platform-as-a-product for the domain squads. The candidate should have experience building and managing a platform that supports multiple domain squads, with a focus on providing self-service capabilities, automation, and standardization.
Knowledge of IP networking, VPNs, VPCs, Subnets, DNS, load balancers, firewalls etc.
Experience implementing monitoring and log aggregating frameworks and tools such as Kafka, Splunk, Grafana, Elastic Search, and Kibana.
Good understanding of AWS Cost Explorer and experience in optimizing infrastructure cost on AWS.
Extensive hands-on experience in consuming and configuring AWS services – ECS, EKS, ECR, S3, RDS, KMS etc.
Strong leadership and mentorship skills. The candidate should have strong leadership skills with the ability to lead and mentor other DevOps engineers, as well as collaborate effectively with other teams and stakeholders.
Passion to lead from the front by keeping in touch with emergent technologies to keep our platform and services in alignment with industry trends.
Collaborate with solution architects, product teams, SRE, operations, and leadership to identify and prioritize technology initiatives and ensure alignment with business objectives.

Pay Range: $94,798.00 - $188,400.00
This hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting. Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements and geographic location.
