Uses Geographic Information System techniques to provide a better understanding of certain variables in a given geographic location. Research, acquire, analyze and maintain geographic information systems (GIS) datasets and relevant public records from responsible governmental agencies to enable processing of statutory and non-statutory disclosures. Extracts data from GIS software and uses varying analysis methods to arrive at results. Recommends strategies in response to GIS analysis. Coordinates special projects assigned by the GIS Manager.Essential Functions
- Supports the maintenance and development of various GIS datasets
- Use GIS specific software to create and edit geospatial data, develop project-specific databases, obtain geospatial data from other sources, perform spatial analysis, and prepare map figures
- Review data and perform quality assurance checks for adherence to quality specifications as required by client
- Identify and analyze trends in errors, analyze systemic errors and propose corrective measures to resolve them
- Assist Sr. Geospatial Technician with QA\QC issues
- Document work processes
- Identify and perform routine automation improvements
- May coordinate updates and changes to the database, applying quality control procedures on the data to ensure its accuracy.
Knowledge and Skills/Technology Used
- Must be proficient in a number of computer applications, but must specifically possess GIS software skills; knowledge of ESRI products, MapInfo, and MS Office is preferred
- Strong background in GIS software required; working understanding or scripting languages preferred (e.g. VBA, Python, VB script, JavaScript)
- Must be extremely familiar with spatial and attribute data and have experience with cartography and map design
- Good customer service skills, goal oriented, self-motivated, excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
- Process a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Good organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Intermediate database skills
- Must be able to work independently as well as collaborate in a team environment
Typical Education
- High School Diploma /GED required; BS/BA in Geography, Planning, related field or GIS
- Certification is preferred; other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted
Typical Range of Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years professional level experience utilizing technical expertise and/or solid knowledge base and skill set
License or Certification
- GIS Certification preferred
