The Financial Reporting Manager supports First American’s Corporate Accounting team by leading accounting for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and complex technical accounting matters. This role is responsible for technical accounting analysis, purchase accounting, carve out and asset sale accounting, consolidation assessments, and financial reporting research in compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements. In addition, the role assists with month end and quarter end close activities, as assigned, and works closely with Corporate Development (M&A), Legal, Tax, the SEC team, and auditors to deliver accurate, timely, and audit defensible accounting conclusions.What You’ll Do:
M&A, Transactions & Purchase Accounting
- Lead accounting for mergers, acquisitions, asset purchases, divestitures, and business combinations from signed LOI through post‑close integration
- Prepare and review purchase accounting, including:
- Identification and valuation support for acquired assets and assumed liabilities
- Goodwill and intangible asset recognition
- Measurement period adjustments
- Support carve‑out financial statements and asset sale transactions, including working capital analyses, post close true up.
- Partner with M&A teams on pre‑close accounting considerations, deal structuring implications, and closing mechanics
Technical Accounting & Policy
- Research, analyze, and document complex accounting matters under U.S. GAAP (ASC 805, 810, 606, 842, 350, 360, CECL etc.)
- Prepare high‑quality technical accounting memos (“white papers”) that are audit‑ready and SEC‑defensible
- Lead accounting conclusions for consolidation, VIE, joint ventures, and equity investments
- Develop, update, and maintain corporate accounting policies and ensure consistent application across entities
Financial Reporting & Audit Support
- Support quarterly and annual financial reporting, including Form 10‑K and 10‑Q disclosures related to M&A, impairments, investments, and significant accounting judgments
- Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors on complex accounting matters
- Proactively identify reporting risks and ensure appropriate documentation and controls are in place
Cross‑Functional Leadership & Process Improvement
- Provide guidance to GL and operational accounting teams on transaction‑related entries and accounting treatments
- Identify opportunities to improve close processes, documentation standards, and use of technology/automation
- Mentor and review work prepared by senior and staff accountants
What You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA designation required
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including minimum of 2 years of public accounting experience required; Big 4 experience strongly preferred.
- Advanced expertise in the interpretation and application of U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations; IFRS knowledge a plus.
- Experience working with large ERP systems, with Oracle and Hyperion preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex scenarios, assess alternatives, and recommend effective solutions.
- Demonstrated complex problem-solving abilities and sound judgment in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present technical accounting matters to diverse audiences.

This hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting. Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements and geographic location.
