What We Do

Our Public Affairs team plays a critical role in shaping and strengthening how we communicate, both within our organization and across the communities we serve. As strategic storytellers and trusted advisors, the team leads efforts that drive transparent, consistent, and impactful internal communications while supporting our broader corporate reputation. This summer, we’re excited to offer an internship opportunity to a university student located near our Southern California headquarters or anywhere in the continental United States. If you’ve ever considered a career in communications, public affairs or corporate engagement, this is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience. Come join an exciting and transformative organization where the sky is the limit!

What You’ll Do:

Communications within the Public Affairs department is a broad and dynamic field with significant opportunity for impact across the organization. During the internship, you will focus on two primary projects, along with ongoing support of internal communications initiatives:

Main Projects

  • Monthly Engagement Kit Creation (Capstone Project)
Lead the creation of a new digital content series on our intranet designed to support and inspire managers and provide an overview of what’s planned for the month. This project will include developing a content series aligned to company initiatives, key holidays and celebrations throughout the year, offering creative and inclusive ideas for how leaders can engage their teams and colleagues. This will require collaboration and partnership with other teams in the organization. The intern will have significant creative ownership—from concept development and storytelling to content production and toolkit design—culminating in a capstone deliverable that can be scaled across the organization.
  • “Intern Diaries” Content Series
Help create and execute our annual news series designed to highlight interns across the company. This initiative will spotlight intern experiences, highlight career pathways, and increase visibility of the intern community across the company. Responsibilities may include content planning, interviewing peers and leaders, writing articles, creating videos, and coordinating publication to drive engagement and awareness.

Ongoing Internal Communications Support

  • Internal Communications Execution & Support
Assist with core internal communications activities such as developing PowerPoint decks for meetings, reviewing and editing documents, drafting announcements, and supporting enterprise messaging initiatives. This work provides exposure to executive communications and real-time organizational priorities.

This internship offers hands-on experience in shaping internal narratives, strengthening employee engagement, and building communication strategies that support our People First culture.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Majoring in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Business or a related field is preferred.
  • Prior exposure to applying communications best practices through content creation, storytelling initiatives, campaign development, research projects, student organizations, or previous internships.

What’s in it for you?

  • Competitive Pay: We offer competitive industry pay for our internship program.
  • Industry Experience: The rare opportunity to impact one of the most prominent players in the United States real estate market.
  • Mentorship & Buddy Program: We're in this together. You will be coached by an experienced mentor and paired with a buddy to answer your questions along the way.
  • Networking: A chance to build your network with intelligent and hardworking interns and First American employees who share your passion for technology.
  • Exposure: Access to cutting-edge tools, learning and development resources, and the opportunity to present your project on one of our department calls in front of First American leadership.
** Note that the following statements only apply to candidates who will be working from an unincorporated area within Los Angeles County. **
First American will consider for employment all qualified applicants, including those with arrest or conviction records, in a manner consistent with the requirements of applicable state and local laws (e.g., the Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance for Employers and the California Fair Chance Act).
First American intends to conduct a review of an applicant’s criminal history in connection with a conditional offer. First American reasonably believes that a criminal history may have a direct, adverse and negative relationship with the following material job duties for this position potentially resulting in the withdrawal of the conditional offer of employment: handling of confidential, proprietary or trade secret information belonging to First American or its customers, administrating or facilitating financial transactions, and the ability to meet customer-imposed criminal history requirements.
