What We Do

The intern will work in a program designed to help graduate and legal students gain experience and develop the technology, professional and interpersonal skills that will be invaluable throughout their career. Interns are given exposure by working in a corporate environment within the Financial/Title Industry balanced with intern specific activities, executive level presentations and networking opportunities while under the close supervision and guidance of their manager or in-house counsel for the Underwriting program. 2L and 3L law students in the Underwriting program will work on assignments related to Real Estate Law. Underwriting interns will also be attending approximately 5 hours of training per week and will work on various projects in the office including but not limited to: legal research for underwriters, preparing indemnity letters, attending seminars, and visiting customers' or agents' offices with underwriters. Graduate interns are assigned significant work assignments to support a specific business function within Marketing, Human Resources, IT, Operations, Accounting and Finance.

The First American Underwriting Innovation Team is looking for a well-rounded law student with range and intellectual diversity for a summer associate job on our product counsel team.

You’ll join the Underwriting Innovation Team’s efforts to co-develop the future, providing guidance and expertise in tip-of-the-spear fields where real property law and technology meet.

What You’ll Get to Do:

  • Work as a day-to-day member of an empowered product team, providing guidance and support to software engineers, designers, researchers, and product managers.

  • Translate complex real estate law subjects into clear ideas accessible to product team members.

  • In partnership with product management, cultivate and analyze knowledge of competitor products to identify gaps, threats, and advantages.

What You’ll Need to Do It:

  • Currently enrolled as a law student, entering your 2L or 3L year.

  • A digital-first, technology-forward mindset, passionate about humans and machines working together.

  • Synthesis skills and a broad intellectual range across diverse topics.

  • Solid oral, written, and visual communication skills.

  • Basic understanding of Agile and UX principles preferred.

  • Novice-level understanding of any software engineering language preferred.

  • Drive to be constantly upskilling and learning new areas relevant to the intersection of real property and technology.


Pay Range: $30.00-$34.00 hourly
This hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting.  Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements and geographic location.
